Economic Development Lethbridge (EDL) is an independent not-for-profit organization governed by a 31-member Board of Directors.  The mandate of the organization is to strengthen and develop the Lethbridge economy by initiating and facilitating proactive economic development strategies and promoting our great city as an excellent place to live, learn, invest, visit and do business.

Tecconnect is a facility in Lethbridge, owned and operated by Economic Development Lethbridge, that is designed to attract, incubate and develop technology companies through commercialization of products and services.

The Regional Innovation Network of Southern Alberta (RINSA) is a collaborative partnership between Lethbridge College, EDL, the University of Lethbridge, NRC-IRAP, Community Futures, SouthGrow Regional Initiative, and Alberta Southwest Regional Alliance. RINSA assists startup and SME’s to successfully navigate the commercialization system through programs and services.

Entrepreneurial training and business advising are also provided through this venue with enhanced video conferencing capacity.  

The Women-in-STEM Program is a three-year program funded through Western Economic Diversification -Women Entrepreneurship Strategy program to create a STEM centric community in southern Alberta by offering training, networking, mentorship and access to current and emerging technologies. It focuses on advancing gender equality in the STEM sector by supporting under-represented women in rural and remote regions.

One of Lethbridge’s greatest assets is its diverse and dynamic population. Our population continues to grow at a steady rate and as of 2018 sits at 99,769. More than a quarter of the adult population is under the age of 34, Lethbridge brims with a youthful energy.

Over the past five years, our population has grown by an average of almost two per cent per year. That’s nearly 150 new arrivals each month!

Lethbridge also continues to demonstrate a stable, balanced labour market.

Lethbridge employers have access to a young, well-educated pool of potential employees from the more than 3,200 students who graduate from our city’s two post-secondary institutions. For students, that also means a chance to stay in Lethbridge to pursue a diverse range of employment opportunities.

CA data for the city indicate that Lethbridge had the lowest unemployment rate in the province in 2016 at 5.9% (up from 4.0% in 2015).
